Common Terms Used in Playing Bingo
If you are a newbie to bingo, there are some common terms that you need to learn first in order to avoid being left out of the game while playing. The common terms that you will usually encounter as you play bingo are the following:
- Bingo board: This is a board where all the called out numbers of the game are being displayed. Bingo boards are usually electronically lighted for best distinctness.
- Bingo booklet: A booklet that contains a sequence of colored sheets that are to be played during a game. The sheets are sequentially arranged in the order that they must be played in the game.
- Buy in: Serves as your admission packet for the game and usually consists of three to six cards minimum.
- Caller: Known as the person who is responsible for calling out loud the called out numbers being during the draw. The caller is also part of the game but doesn't really play bingo.
- Coverall: A bingo pattern that requires all the numbers on the bingo card to be marked in order to win the game. But not all games require you to complete coverall pattern to win the prize.
- Dauber: This is a special pen used in bingo to mark the called out numbers on the bingo card. Dauber is made of a foam tip that can easily blacken the entire number with just a simple touch on the card.
- Early bird game: Bingo that starts much earlier that the regular schedule of the game.
- Four corners bingo: A bingo pattern that lets you win if you have marked the four corners of your bingo card during the game. Aside from four corners, there are still other bingo patterns available like blackout, postage stamp, and other more.
- Minimum buy in: The minimum number of cards allowed enabling you to join in the game. Minimum buy in varies from one game to another. Minimum buy in is also considered as the minimum amount you will spend in bingo in order to contend for the prizes at stake.
- Moonlight bingo: A game that starts on the time that the moon is already up which is usually 10 PM or later.
- On-player: A label that players receive if they are a number away from getting bingo.
- Quickie or speed game: Where a very speedy called out coverall pattern was completed.
- Random number generator: This is the machine that does the picking of numbers in a random manner rather than the caller doing it.
- Six-pack or Nine-pack: Indicates the number of bingo cards during a specific game played.
- Tickets: Use in the identification process of the booklets when making a claim and they are bar coded. The tickets are present on every page of the booklet which corresponds to the game that you are playing.
- Wrap-up: The game that completes the bingo session you are in.
